The Hamro Samman Project and National Business Initiative (NBI) are partnering to create the Responsible Business Alliance Nepal, a strategic alliance of businesses and professionals, with the purpose to jointly act on and advance goals that serve both business development and social objectives.

Hamro Samman, a five-year project supported by the U.S. Agency for International Development and the United Kingdom’s Department for International Development, and implemented by Winrock International, works to reduce trafficking-in-persons (TIP), including labor exploitation in domestic and foreign employment, as well as in the Nepali adult entertainment sector.

The purpose of the Alliance is to improve knowledge and awareness about human trafficking in Nepal (primarily among vulnerable populations and companies); to promote skill-building and job placements and linkages; and to promote responsible business practices amongst its members and other business to reduce the risk of exploitation and human trafficking.

In the first two years, 2019-2020, the Alliance will champion and focus on countering TIP (or CTIP) and exploitation of Nepalis, particularly of laborers/workers in Nepal and in the migration destination countries abroad. The strategic focus of the Alliance beyond 2021 will be determined by members of the Alliance in consultation with NBI.
