NBI's 20th Anniversary Commemoration
June 18, 2026
National Business Initiative (NBI) marked its 20th anniversary on June 18, 2026, with a commemorative program bringing together business leaders, policymakers, academics, and development partners under the theme “Responsible Business Conduct and Nepal’s Path to Prosperity.”
Celebrating Two Decades of NBI
The event featured a special address by Founding President Padma Jyoti, reflecting on NBI’s journey from its origins during Nepal’s conflict period to its present role as a leading voice for responsible business practice. He emphasized the inseparable bond between business and society, and the work that lies ahead in areas including climate resilience, technology governance, and political finance transparency.
A highlight of the program was a panel discussion moderated by social entrepreneur Anil Chitrakar, featuring:
- Rameswor Khanal – Former Finance Minister and Economist
- Hon. Ganesh Parajuli – Deputy Leader, Parliamentary Party, Rastriya Swatantra Party
- Prof. Dr. Gandhi Pandit – Corporate Lawyer and Academic
- Bhuvan Kumar Dahal – Former President, Nepal Bankers’ Association
- Binayak Shah – President, HAN
Panelists explored responsible business from financial, legal, tourism, and policy perspectives, addressing topics from ESG compliance and digital transparency to the need for a Chamber Law and project financing reforms. A shared commitment emerged: that responsible business is not a constraint on growth, but its most durable foundation.
FNCCI President Anjan Shrestha delivered a special address calling for an end to the arbitrary detention of businesspeople, and reiterating demands for an Anti-Arbitrary Detention Bill, effective Insolvency Act reform, and a structured asset declaration process.
As NBI enters its third decade, the message was clear: profit and responsibility must travel together. We remain committed to building a peaceful, prosperous Nepal through responsible business leadership.
