Establishment of Multi-sectoral Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management
National Business Initiative, in partnership with Asia Pacific Alliance for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (A-PAD), conducted “Establishment of Multi-sectoral Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction to Support the Resiliency of Disaster-prone Communities (EMPD)” program from December 2021 to July 2022.
Major objectives of the program were:
1. To support Emergency Operation Centers (EOCs) for better disaster preparedness in Nepal.
2. To establish the mechanism to share information and resources for disaster preparedness in Nepal.
3. To establish A-PAD Nepal Platform and linking its network with other A-PAD member countries.
Major activities conducted as part of the program were:
- A-PAD Platform coordination meetings to collect ideas and suggestions from multi-sectoral stakeholders (government, private sector, CSOs, academia and media)
- DIMS equipment handover to District Emergency Operations Centers in Dhankuta, Udayapur and Sunsari; Provincial Emergency Operation Center in Morang and National Emergency Operation Center in Kathmandu.
- Oxygen generation plant (6 Nm3/hr capacity) to Chainpur Hospital in Sankhuwasabha for COVID-19 response.
- Development and dissemination of PR materials (posters, brochures, newsletters) on disaster preparedness and risk reduction.
- Conducted internal symposium on “Disaster Risk Reduction and Management in Nepal” to generate way forward for multi-sector collaboration and trans-national support for disaster preparedness and risk reduction.
